New Act in Goa to counter terrorism
TIMES NEWS NETWORK
Panaji: By next tourist season, the Goa police intends to have an Act that ensures that all guest houses and hotels maintain details of the guests. If someone fails to comply then their establishment maybe closed.
“Terrorism is spreading its tentacles world over,” said DGP B S Brar. The police is now seriously considering invoking section 144 of the CrPC, till Goa has an Act to keep check on this. “We have, time and again, emphasised that every guest house owner should keep record as it is vital for the safety and security of the state, especially Goa which is a tourist state.”
The police also plans to sensitise the stakeholders and get them involved. “Already quite a large number of hotels have started complying with it, but few have not fully complied,” said the DGP.
Already the North and South Goa District Magistrates issued under section 144 of CrPC directing landlords, owners of houses and property intending to rent accommodation to any person to do so after furnishing the particulars of the tenants to the police inspector of the police station in the jurisdiction it is located in.
The order was issued with the aim of maintaining check on rented premises as there is a possibility of terrorists, anti social elements in guise of tenants seeking hideouts in residential areas. They may breach peace and endanger human life and property.
